During an online meeting in Shenzhen and Hong Kong last Thursday, the Shenzhen Institute of information Technology (SZIIT) and the Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) signed a cooperation agreement for exchanges, joint trainings and cultivation programs.

The signing marks a breakthrough in promoting vocational education collaboration in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

At present, the two sides are working on joint cultivation programs for students in Shenzhen and Hong Kong under which academic credits will be mutually accepted at the two schools.

Meanwhile, SZIIT and HKMU are expected to jointly develop and provide teaching projects, conduct vocational education research and visiting programs, hold international seminars, and organize training programs.

Paul Kwan-sing Lam, president of HKMU, said that the cooperation allows the two sides to make full use of their advantages to provide solid talent and skill support for economic and social development in the Greater Bay Area, suggesting that the two schools had discussed cooperation models and ranges and would speed up the mapping out of detailed plans.

Wang Hui, president of SZIIT, said that the collaboration is an important step for the Greater Bay Area’s education interconnection, adding that SZIIT will deepen cooperation with HKMU to contribute to the building of a world-class program of vocational education in the Greater Bay Area.

HKMU, formerly the Open University of Hong Kong, was founded in 1989. A modern rehensive university today, HKMU has about 10,000 full-time undergraduates, 1,900 postgraduates and 8,700 part-time students.

Founded in 2002, the SZIIT campus in Longgang District covers an area of 925,000 square meters, with over 20,000 full-time students studying in nearly 50 majors related to information and communication technology (ICT).
