THE Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology (SZIIT) Innovation Harbor was inaugurated Thursday, aiming to clear technology bottlenecks and become a technical service highland in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

The Innovation Harbor, located in SZIIT's Longgang campus, has a construction area of roughly 6,000 square meters.

The innovation platform will spotlight industrial demand in the GBA and include a high-level scientific laboratory, applied technology innovation center, public technical service platform, advanced technology pilot base, sci-tech achievements transformation base and applied technology research team, according to SZIIT.

At present, the first batch of platforms that have settled in the harbor include innovation centers and service platforms for advanced semiconductor, new materials research, intelligent manufacturing, intelligent hardware core chip design and application, and so on.

All projects target Guangdong Province's industrial development planning as well as Shenzhen's guidelines on emerging industrial clusters and future industries.

Wang Hui, president of SZIIT, said the harbor will gather small and independent research platforms for more quality resources and better research results. In addition, most projects will be carried out under a multidisciplinary model.

"Technology research and development should move from the low-level technical services in the past to solve technology bottlenecks and provide higher level services for industrial upgrading," Wang said.
